Xiamen Carbon Crank Cluster: Who Actually Makes Carbon Cranksets?

April 16, 2026

In the past couple of years, a wave of carbon crankset brands has emerged from China. Dig a little into forum threads and product listings and they start pointing in the same direction: several of these brands appear to share components, factories, or both.

Most of them trace back to a handful of companies in Xiamen, Fujian, which is basically China's carbon fiber cycling capital. Here is what we have pieced together from online forums, product listings, social media posts, and YouTube videos.

A caveat up front: Chinese company structures are notoriously opaque from the outside. What follows is based on public statements from brand owners on forums like Chinertown and Weight Weenies, product listings, Chinese industry media (Biketo), trademark registrations, and in one case a factory visit. Some of these connections may be incomplete or outdated. Take it as a best-effort picture, not the definitive org chart.

How it all fits together

The carbon crank ecosystem in Xiamen works in layers. Shared machined components at the bottom, distinct crank arm designs in the middle, consumer brands at the top.

One pattern keeps coming up: the machined metal parts (spindles, the spindle-to-crank interface, preload collars) look identical or near-identical across many of these brands. As one Chinertown forum user noted: "All the metal parts of the spindle and crank arm interface are identical to all the other generic carbon cranks, so they could be buying those from CENIT who produce cranks for all the others." [1]

Where the brands diverge is in the carbon crank arms themselves. Cybrei has a distinctive sharp-edged profile. XMCS uses curved arms (addressing clearance complaints about the straight-arm designs). The budget brands (Lexon, CarbonBikeKits, Leese) tend to use flatter, smoother arm shapes.

An important nuance: while the machined components are widely shared, the carbon crank arms come from at least two or three distinct sources. A Weight Weenies user who appears to have insider knowledge stated plainly: "CENIT is also a brand which belongs to one big OEM factory. But it is not the factory which produces Cybrei crank." [2] And the opening post of the Weight Weenies thread notes: "Despite the visual similarities, Cybrei is NOT made by the same factory as Elilee." [3] So while these brands share an ecosystem, they are not all coming off the same production line.

DFS and CENIT - where the parts come from

DFS

Company: 厦门图王贸易有限公司 (Xiamen Tu Wang Trading Co., Ltd.)
Founded: 2014, by former R&D engineers from a joint-venture carbon bicycle factory
Role: OEM manufacturer of carbon cranks, sells under own DFS brand
Where to buy: Alibaba, Shopify

DFS appears to operate the factory floor for one segment of the crank market. Owner Angler Wang stated on the Chinertown forum that DFS makes cranks for CENIT [4]. Forum users group DFS with CarbonBikeKits and Fastop as sharing the same basic crank design - "dime a dozen, lower cost options" [5].

DFS's own CT3 crank model overlaps with CENIT products. One YouTube video is titled "DFS Xiamen Factory / Cenit 165mm 288.5g Carbon crank" with the supplier listed as Xiamen Tu Wang Trading Company [6]. Primarily B2B - expect Alibaba or direct-contact purchasing.

CENIT

Company: 福建碳轮体育用品有限公司 (Fujian Carbon Wheel Sports Products Co., Ltd.)
Factory: Xiamen Weiheng Technology (厦门纬衡科技有限公司), 60 Baihuyan Road, Jimei District, Xiamen [7]
Role: Brand owner, commissions DFS for crank manufacturing, supplies sub-components (spindles, interfaces) to other brands
Where to buy: Tagoola AliExpress, Anjoy Cycle (HK), The Wings Co. (HK)

CENIT is backed by Xiamen Weiheng Technology, which has 12+ years of carbon composite experience [7]. CENIT reportedly commissions DFS for crank manufacturing [4] while also producing carbon wheelsets in-house (PTS, PRONTO, CONCEPT series). The CONCEPT series was launched through COLNAGO China's stores [8].

What makes CENIT particularly significant is its role as a component supplier. Forum discussions suggest CENIT supplies machined sub-components (spindles and interfaces) to other brands [1]. CENIT cranks range from 288g to 340g and tend to be priced lower than Cybrei or Elilee, reflecting a more direct path from factory to consumer.

On AliExpress, CENIT cranks are sold through the Tagoola store. Tagoola (厦门航宇体育科技有限公司, Xiamen Hangyu Sports Technology Co., Ltd.) is primarily a wheelset brand with its own Aeroraptor product line, but doubles as CENIT's retail channel [9].

Brands

Cybrei

Based in: Xiamen
Founded by: Competitive cyclists, including Mian Chan (who co-founded Evolve frames with Tony Tong from Elitewheels [10])
Key product: GP-3 carbon crankset
Where to buy: Panda Podium ($462–$854), cybrei.com, Power Meter City (official US dealer [11]), SRM online shop [12]

Cybrei is arguably the most established of the Chinese carbon crank brands. The GP-3 weighs around 320g for the crank arms (170mm, DUB spindle) [3], made from Toray T1000 carbon with a dual-airway internal molding process. They claim it passes a 1800N fatigue test and 5600N destruction test, exceeding EU EN14781 standards. Panda Podium independently measured the Cybrei at 320g, matching the manufacturer claim - in contrast with the Skypivot where they found a 15g discrepancy [40].

Spindle options: Originally DUB-only (29mm cold-forged 7075 aluminum), Cybrei added a 24mm titanium spindle version in late 2024 (~340g initially, now lighter revisions) [13]. Both use the Easton CINCH-style spider interface.

Pogačar at the 2024 Tour de France: Cybrei gained major visibility when Tadej Pogačar appeared to be using GP-3 crank arms at 165mm length [14]. The cranks were part of an SRM Origin power meter system - SRM supplied the spider, Cybrei the carbon arms, paired with oversized Carbon-Ti chainrings. On-bike, the cranks carried SRM branding rather than Cybrei, but Cybrei posted about the collaboration on Instagram. SRM now sells Cybrei cranks through their online shop [12]. SRM reps reportedly told forum users they "purchased and tested a good handful of Chinese carbon crank arms and was satisfied with the performance of the Cybrei arms" [15].

Real-world feedback from the Weight Weenies thread (2+ years of posts, 170+ pages [16]):

  • Generally very positive: multiple users report 5,000–30,000+ km with no issues

  • Stiff and silent under load, even for heavier riders (85–95 kg) [17]

  • Cybrei's own chainrings shift "notably different" from Shimano under load

  • some shifts are smooth, others less so. Most users who care about shifting run Shimano Dura-Ace or Ultegra chainrings on the Cybrei spider with perfect results [18]

  • The chainrings are a carbon front plate bonded to an aluminum backplate (not a pure carbon ring) [19]. Forum users observed that the aluminum version appears to be "just rebranded Stone chainrings" [20]

  • Common complaint: installation can be tricky (tight BB fit, spacer calculations)

  • Crank arms are flat-profile, which can cause heel rub depending on cleat position

Elilee

Company: Yunshu (Xiamen) Industrial Design Co., Ltd.
Founded: 2021 by Shu Li
Where to buy: elilee.com, AliExpress

Elilee's product range is broader than most competitors:

  • X310crankset (~310g, 24mm Ti spindle) their workhorse

  • X-Novanta (~260g with integrated carbon spindle) - ultra-light

  • X-Trecento (290g, 24mm Ti) - announced, in testing [13]

  • POWEE power meter (99g sensor, +/- 1% accuracy)

In January 2026, Bahrain Victorious announced a multi-year partnership with Elilee [21] for cranksets and power meters. Elilee cranks had already been spotted on Bahrain Victorious spare bikes at the 2025 Tour de France [22].

Elilee also makes a Shimano-compatible spider that fits Cybrei cranks. Forum users recommend it for pairing Cybrei arms with Dura-Ace chainrings because it looks much better than Cybrei's own spider [23].

Known issue: The early 24mm titanium spindle version had a design flaw. The outer diameter was shrunk too much at the middle of the spindle, which caused significantly worse non-drive-side crank stiffness [24]. Newer versions have reportedly fixed this.

Both Cybrei and Elilee make SRM Origin-compatible crank arms. As of mid-2025, they seem to be the only two Chinese brands offering this [25].

XMCS (Xiamen Carbon Speed)

Company: 厦门碳速运动用品有限公司 (Xiamen Carbon Speed Sport Goods Co., Ltd.)
Founded by: Peter Xu
Based in: Tong'an District, Xiamen
Where to buy: Direct via Peter Xu, xmcarbonspeed.cc, xmcs.nl (EU dealer, Netherlands), @xmcsbelgium (Instagram)

I have visited the XMCS factories in Xiamen. They operate or control a couple of separate facilities for offices, hubs, rims, and frames, and are one of the few Xiamen brands that builds hubs completely in-house [26]. I did not see carbon crank production during my visit. Next time in Xiamen I will ask about it. They entered the crank market in early 2025 [27].

Products and pricing:

  • DUB 29mm aluminum spindle: $230 USD, ~330g (165mm) [28]

  • 24mm titanium spindle: $310 USD, 325 +/- 5g (165mm) [29]

  • Available lengths: 155mm, 165mm, 170mm [30]

  • Chainrings: $165 USD for double sets (50/34, 52/36, 53/39, 54/40) [31]

  • Carbon spider available

  • Easton CINCH-style interface (no 3-bolt - Peter Xu cited patent concerns [32])

The crank arms have a curved design, different from the straight arms of Cybrei and Elilee. Forum users noted "there were complaints about clearance issues with the straight arms like Elilee and Cybrei" [33]. XMCS's curved arms address this. Another difference: the preload collar threads are on the spindle rather than the crank [34].

Forum users observed that "the spindle-crank interface looks identical to Cybrei, the arms are different" and that this is "probably from the same machine shop" [33]. Given XMCS's manufacturing capabilities in other product lines, they likely produce their own carbon crank arms while sourcing the machined metal interface components from the same Xiamen suppliers as everyone else.

Early issues on Chinertown:

  • Chainring QC problems - noticeable wobble/runout on some units, making front derailleur setup difficult [35]

  • 1x narrow-wide chainrings don't work with Shimano 12-speed quick links (solved with KMC or YBN links) [36]

  • XMCS and Leese chainrings appear to come from the same factory [37]

  • Some users report BB compression issues during install (spacer selection matters) [38]

  • Crankarms themselves receive positive reviews - stiff, good finish, no structural complaints [39]

XMCS offers the most competitive pricing of the brands with real factory infrastructure ($230–$310). The crank arms are solid but the chainrings are still maturing. Most savvy buyers are pairing XMCS arms with Shimano or Alugear chainrings.

Incolor / Skypivot - and a possible Elilee connection

Company: Guangzhou Inkalu Technology Co., Ltd.
Based in: Guangzhou (not Xiamen)
Designer: philipeleven (Weight Weenies username)
Where to buy: Panda Podium (~$380)

The Skypivot was one of the earliest Chinese carbon cranks. It was publicly developed on Weight Weenies starting in September 2019 [46]. Designer philipeleven described it as "a joint development with a factory in southern China (engineers who had experience developing the 3T Meta crankset)" [46]. Incolor itself was originally a custom paint studio. They made the facial-makeup helmets for Chinese track cyclists at the 2016 Rio Olympics [46].

Made from T1000 and M40 high modulus carbon, the Skypivot had a 24mm Ti axle option from the start -- before Cybrei or anyone else offered one. Stiffness was claimed at 170 N/mm on their test rig, compared to 146 N/mm for SRAM Force and 160 N/mm for Specialized OSBB [46]. Panda Podium's independent weight measurements found 335g (172.5mm, 29mm axle) and 350g (170mm, 24mm Ti) - notably heavier than the claimed 320g [40]. Q-factor 148.5mm, chainline 44mm, spider 30g, chainrings 162g (50/34) to 178g (52/36) [40].

Production was always limited, around 20-30 sets per month [46]. By mid-2021 production had stopped: "They're not being produced anymore. Production ceased as they needed to be redesigned... the OEM has full order books and makes more doing other things." [47]There were also early reliability issues. At least one cracked gen 1 unit was reported [48]. A v2/v3 revision eventually appeared and Panda Podium picked up distribution, but volumes stayed small.

A curious detail: the original Weight Weenies thread was started by philipeleven to showcase the Skypivot. But the first post has since been edited - the photos now added at the top ("updates pics from riders:") appear to show Elilee-branded cranks, not Skypivot [46]. Whether philipeleven moved from Incolor to Elilee, or there is a deeper design lineage between the two brands, is not confirmed. But it would explain the shared DNA: both use a similar proprietary spider interface (different from the Easton CINCH standard used by everyone else), both were early to offer 24mm Ti spindles, and the Weight Weenies crank thread OP explicitly states "Cybrei is NOT made by the same factory as Elilee" [3] - implying insider knowledge of where Elilee is made.

Bigrock

Bigrock has gained a following on Weight Weenies for their RS carbon crankset. With a 24mm titanium spindle option, Easton CINCH interface, and graphics that some compare favorably to SRAM Red, they offer a solid value proposition [41].

Forum users report positive experiences ("solid company with great prices") though setup requires trial and error with spacer combinations. They also sell carbon handlebars, seatposts, and other components. Whether they manufacture their own crank arms or source from the shared OEM ecosystem is unclear.

AliExpress alternatives and rebrands

A growing number of AliExpress-available carbon cranks share similar designs and likely common OEM origins. One Chinertown user listed the brands using this "generic" carbon crank design [42]:

  • Lexon - early AliExpress option, recently redesigned (heavier, cheaper to produce [43]). The indent design "comes from the same OEM as Weir RPM" [44]

  • CarbonBikeKits - grouped with DFS as sharing manufacturing origin [5]

  • Leese - chainrings from the same factory as XMCS chainrings [37]

  • Riro - listed among generic alternatives

  • Sprill / Pass Quest - listed among generic alternatives

  • Fastop - posted "exact same but unbranded cranks" on LinkedIn [45], though differences vs. Cybrei were noted in the NDS interface and arm profile [5]

These tend to cost $150–250 and use the same Easton CINCH spider interface. The main risk is less testing, less QC, and no established support. As one forum user put it after talking to SRM reps who specifically approved Cybrei: "I wouldn't even consider the other brands for my race bike. If it was my winter beater, the rest will suffice." [15]

Quick comparison

None of this makes one brand inherently better or worse. Cybrei has the SRM/Pogačar connection and the widest dealer network. Elilee develops power meters and has WorldTour presence. XMCS offers the most direct pricing from a manufacturer with real infrastructure. And the budget brands make carbon cranks accessible under $250.

What the shared supply chain does explain is why these cranks share certain characteristics: similar weight ranges (290–340g), compatible spindle options (DUB and 24mm titanium), and the same Easton CINCH-style spider interface. They can all use the same power meter spiders (XCadey, Sigeyi) and the same aftermarket chainrings.

Pricing across the range:

  • AliExpress brands: $150–250 (Lexon, Leese, CarbonBikeKits)

  • XMCS: $230–310 (direct from manufacturer)

  • CENIT via Tagoola: ~$250–350

  • Bigrock: ~$200–350

  • Cybrei: $462–854 (SRM partnership, dealer network)

  • Elilee: $392–769 (power meter ecosystem, WorldTour team)

Whether the premium is worth it depends on what matters to you. SRM compatibility? A WorldTour pedigree? Or just saving money on what is, at its core, the same category of product built from similar raw materials in the same city.

Power meters and chainrings compat

All brands in this ecosystem use the Easton CINCH spider interface, making them compatible with:

  • XCadey X-Power S Gen 2 - popular, may need slope calibration (5–6% low out of the box)

  • Sigeyi AXO - generally accurate out of the box

  • SRM Origin - premium, requires specific SRM-compatible crank arms (only Cybrei and Elilee)

  • Power2Max NG Eco - Easton spider version

Popular chainring choices:

  • Shimano Dura-Ace / Ultegra - best shifting, requires 4-bolt spider adapter

  • Stone - budget, same as Cybrei's own aluminum rings according to forum users [20]

  • Alugear - well-regarded for 1x setups, confirmed Shimano 12-speed chain compatible

  • Carbon-Ti - premium, shifting comparable to Shimano
