THREE Cycling Radars That Should Be Avoided (for now)
Shane Miller - GPLama
This video is the result of many weeks of in-depth testing of three cycling rear radars - The Magicshine Seeme R300, Giant Recon Plus TL300R, and iGPSport SR30. All have been tested individually and head-to-head against the trusted Garmin Varia RTL515. Despite being marketed as safety devices, these radars frequently produced false positives or failed to detect vehicles, undermining their core function. My position at this point in time is for a product recall on all of these devices until the companies can reduce (or ideally RESOLVE) all the false positives (and the two false negatives) encountered. While the RTL515 isn't perfect, the three radars in focus here are well below acceptable in their operation.

Magicshine Bike Radar Tail Light, Smart Rear View Radar Taillight Compatible with Some Bike Computers and Watches
Created: June 18, 2025The reviewer extensively tested the Magicshine CME r300 radar/taillight combo device and found it performed poorly. The radar functionality had numerous false positives (alerting when no vehicles were present) and false negatives (failing to alert when vehicles were present), leading the reviewer to conclude the product does not work as it should and should not be for sale in its current state.
AI-Summary
Pros
- Bright light
- USB-C charging
- Group awareness mode that reduces brightness when other devices are nearby
- Battery life in bench test was close to claimed specifications (13 hours 14 minutes vs. claimed 14.5 hours)
Cons
- Radar functionality is unreliable with many false positives and false negatives
- Mount on the back is not very durable (reviewer's broke)
- Companion app does not work in the background, making it 'kind of useless'
- Alert persistence is lower than the Garmin baseline (drops vehicles from alert sooner)
- Detection time is slower than the Garmin baseline by about 1-1.5 seconds
- Manufacturer-supplied firmware update showed no change in functionality
- Not Garmin mount compatible
