What does it actually take to build a high-end carbon frame or a UCI-approved wheelset? I traveled to Xiamen, China, to meet with Peter Xu, the founder of Xiamen Carbonspeed (XMCS). In this factory tour, we visit four key locations—from R&D offices to specialized hub, rim, and frame factories—to see how their engineering-first approach sets them apart.

Peter’s philosophy is built on transparency and reliability. From monocoque-only frame construction to hub shells that survive 200,000+ cycle ISO tests, we dive deep into the details that matter for your next build.

In this video:

- The 2026 Race Frames: A first look at the Racing Frameset called "Eruptor" in the video (name subject to change until final release). These are built using monocoque construction for superior strength, featuring "internal wall" technology for massive stiffness and solid carbon seat stays on the Eruptor.
- In-House Hub Production: XMCS develops and produces their hubs completely in-house. We look at the new Archer Light series and the specialized titanium freehub options.
- Testing: We witness ISO-standard testing, including a pull test where a steel spoke snaps at 3400N while the carbon rim remains perfectly intact.

Meet the team at 2026 shows:

- Taipei Cycle Show: March 25 – 28, 2026
- Sea Otter Classic: April 16 – 19, 2026
- Eurobike Frankfurt: June 24 – 27, 2026

The video is a factory tour of Xiamen CarbonSpeed (XMCS) in Xiamen, China, hosted by founder Peter Xu. It reveals the company's engineering-first approach, showcasing in-house production of hubs, rims, and frames, including a new 2026 racing frame with proprietary technology. The tour emphasizes transparency, reliability, and rigorous ISO-standard testing.

Key Facts

  • The company is based in Xiamen, Fujian province, China.
  • XMCS operates four specialized facilities: offices, a hub factory, a rim factory, and a frame factory.
  • The company produces hubs completely in-house, including the Archer Light series and titanium freehub options.
  • Hub shells undergo ISO-standard testing exceeding 200,000 cycles.
  • Frames are constructed using monocoque (monocoque-only) methods.
  • The new 2026 racing frame features 'internal wall' technology for increased stiffness and solid carbon seat stays.
  • Rims undergo ISO testing, including a pull test where a steel spoke snapped at 3400N while the carbon rim remained intact.
  • Rim quality control includes inflating tires to 160 PSI and monitoring pressure for 48 hours, with sample testing from each batch.
  • The most popular rim dimensions are 33mm external width/30-32.5mm internal width and 42mm external width.
  • The company will exhibit at the Taipei Cycle Show (March 25–28, 2026), Sea Otter Classic (April 16–19, 2026), and Eurobike Frankfurt (June 24–27, 2026).

Interview Summary

The host had a brief chat with founder Peter Xu. Key insights include: XMCS plans two tiers for its new racing frameset with different carbon grades but the same layout; Peter prefers aero frames for speed despite them being harder to make lightweight; the company attends Eurobike primarily to be reliable and available for partners; and Peter stated that hub quality from China is now 'very stable' with no quality issues reported from sold wheelsets.

Brand Highlights

  • +Full vertical integration with in-house development and production of hubs, rims, and frames.
  • +Proprietary 'internal wall' frame technology for enhanced stiffness.
  • +Rigorous, transparent ISO-standard testing protocols for both hubs and rims.
  • +Founder Peter Xu personally handles English customer inquiries alongside a longtime colleague.
  • +The company produces OEM products for other well-known brands.
