I Tested the Blingiest Carbon Wheels on the Internet
Tom Bowers Cycling
June 04, 2026
The Tukus Bluefin Wheels are some of the most outrageous carbon wheels I've ever laid eyes on. Wavy carbon spokes, a variable-depth waved rim (62mm down to 55mm), a textured rim surface, silver hubs and ceramic bearings as standard, all wrapped up in gold bling decals. But at $1,225 the real question is whether all that show actually translates into a wheel worth riding. So I spent a month on them: training rides, brutal Lake District passes, TTs and a hill climb, to find out if they're a genuine performer or just a looker.

⚠️ Tukus sent me these wheels to review. As always, all opinions are completely my own, and nothing here was approved or edited by the brand.

Created: June 04, 2026The reviewer tested the TUKUS Bluefin Turbo-SR carbon wheels over a month, covering many miles in training and racing. They found the wheels perform well and are stable in crosswinds, but noted some drawbacks related to comfort, non-captive spokes, and price. The aesthetics are polarizing, and the reviewer suggests a version 2 could address the issues.
AI-Summary
Pros
- Stable in crosswinds despite deep rims and wide spokes
- Good performance; reviewer set some of his fastest average speeds on them
- Pre-taped rims for tubeless setup
- Ceramic bearings with proper grease under end caps
- Smooth spinning and loud freehub sound
- Unique, bling aesthetics (subjective)
Cons
- Non-captive spoke design increases risk of catastrophic failure if a spoke snaps
- Slightly harsh ride comfort compared to steel-spoked wheels
- No spare spokes included in the box
- No wind tunnel data to back aerodynamic claims
- Price ($1,225) is high given competition; some issues expected to be resolved at that price point
- Polarizing aesthetics (Marmite design)
