These wheels are approved by GCN, ARE THEY ANY GOOD?

Elitewheels are one of GCN’s sponsors. These are the Drive SLs. The review wheels are 58 mm deep, exceptionally wide and have an elliptical aerofoil type section. Are they any good!?

The first thing is that these are not the same as the $300 wheels you see on AliExpress, despite what someone on Facebook will tell you. The front rim is about 36 mm wide. That is wide and combined with a thickness that occurs at mid chord, it makes some interesting aero.

Where these wheels are king of the class is in crosswinds. I’ve ridden plenty of deep wheels that try to steer the bike for you when the wind gets up. These barely do it at all. The difference is like night and day.

The hubs are a thing of beauty and come with a titanium freehub as standard.
