THE CHEAPEST AliExpress Groupset, L-TWOO R9 - Install and Test

L-TWOO R9, the cheapest 2x11 groupset available online right now, so let’s get it installed on my bike!

I’m always on the lookout for decent 11 speed groupsets that don’t break the bank! The vast majority of lightweight drivetrain upgrades, such as lightweight cassettes and chains, are only available for 11 speed setups, so in my opinion 11 speed is the way to go.

However, the cheapest 2x11 from Shimano is currently the 105 R7000. It’s a fantastic groupset, but ultimately it is still quite expensive to buy outright for a new bike build.

Queue the L-TWOO R9 groupset. I managed to pick mine up on AliExpress for the crazy low price of £77 in late 2020, and this makes it the cheapest 2x11 groupset you can buy right now.

Installation was an absolute nightmare to be honest, as both shifters have a MASSIVE design flaw, but once on the bike the groupset performs as expected. The front and rear derailleurs are pretty decent quality, and the shifting is pretty good for what you pay. But the design of the shifters does leave quite a lot to be desired.

In this video, I’ll cover the look and feel of the shifters (comparing to other budget options like MICRONEW R11, and Sensah Empire), the install, and my verdict on the groupset as a whole.
